.... what?
Why?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-22 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-22 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, so if I'm follow your logic:

1) What you write is well received.
2) When you write something that's intentionally bad and not well received, fandom passes your test.
3) Profit?????

[identity profile] avocado-love.livejournal.com 2012-01-22 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Nope, I'm calling shenanigans on this one.

Someone who claims to write fic which is 'fairly well received' should at least be able to compose a two paragraph secret which makes logical sense.

Sorry, idgi

Let me guess. No sex? No1curr.

[identity profile] joshua-glass.livejournal.com 2012-01-22 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
As a majority porn writer, it's sad how true that is. :/ I mean, I love writing porn, but every now and then I write a non-porn either cute/fluffy or just meaningful fic. Yep. No comments. Or in the case of one dub-con/emotional blackmail fic, comments that missed the point so hard, I didn't even know how to reply.

I understand some people prefer porn to ~meaningful~, and sometimes just don't know what to comment on something touching, but it's still rather disappointing.

Oooh take THAT, DCnU. Buuurrrrrn! Get some ice for that, titles. BURN.

I think I get it? Curious which titles you're mocking though. If that's the case?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-22 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't it just be easier to find crappy fics that already exist and see what kind of reviews those get?

Or are you in one of those lucky fandoms that has more than five percent decent fics?

[identity profile] goobbledigook.livejournal.com 2012-01-22 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I guess it's not a waste of time if you liked doing it...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-22 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, you sure have a lot of freetime over there.

[identity profile] seiberwing.livejournal.com 2012-01-23 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
I write fics for canon areas I actually like and I can get few to no reviews on them. Not because the fics or canon are bad, just that few people in the fandom are into them. It's got nothing to do with whether fandom still has a 'soul'.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-23 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Ego much? Just because no one says they like your fic doesn't mean they don't. You probably aren't getting your circle-jerking because you haven't owned up to them.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-23 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
OP, you sound like a tool.

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2012-01-23 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Since some of the commenters are questioning what you wrote, I'm going to take a stab a summarizing to see if I get it. You read books from the DCnU and thought it was pretty average. You then wrote DCnU fanfic that you thought was equally average as a test to see if people would go for it or not. Is this right, OP?

If it is, I would say that sounds like an interesting experiment, but your results might work better if your control was internet-based like your variables. My suggestion is to write X different 'excellent' stories, X different 'average' stories, and X different 'terrible' stories, to see which groups gather the most positive comments/kudos. All of them should be in the same genre, preferably porn, since that would generate the most attention.

If you continue to do fandom-based research I would like to hear the results. :)

OK, I get it, you hate the "New 52" reboot and wanted to prove that most people did so too. But I don't think you necessarily proved anything by going to such a small random sample... sorry.

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2012-01-23 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, your fandoms would fail my test. I look for fandoms that are open and welcoming of writers of all level of skill and all tastes. Fandoms that reward risk taking and creativity. They are the vibrant fandoms that are fun and exciting to be in.
