There are some indie comics from the US that mirror European comics in layout and pacing, but yeah, I can see what you mean. It's sort of annoying how superhero comics these days all have to have the most "dynamic" layouts (Batwoman, I'm looking at you) and IMO there's too much text and not enough aspect-to-aspect panels

Batwoman is complex but it makes sense with the story-telling and is beautifully put together. (JH Williams also drew Promethea, and the layouts in that are similarly complicated). It's the one comic I slow down to read, and it's worth it. David Mack is another writer/artist with complex layouts that I love.

Otherwise, yes, totally agreed - for most comics, "dynamic" is down without a lot of thought and wihtout paying attention to pacing or character interaction.

Well I really enjoyed Batwoman and I bought the Elegy graphic novel without ever having read any of it first, and I wasn't confused by the layouts either (and I enjoy complicated layouts when they are not confusing) but I could see how someone not used to that kind of visual storytelling could be put off by it I guess
