Watchmen has a strict nine-panel, gridlike layout that is very easy to follow, if you'd like to take another shot at Western comics.

Also, someone upthread said that the layout of Batwoman is too confusing, which I can definitely see, but it also has some of the best art in current publications. That is to say, that all the characters don't look exactly the same, as you say bothers you.

There are good and bad examples of everything. Not all manga is unique either.
