* Not necessarily saying that as a bad thing...

It was probably cheaper and/or easier to get hold of a stuffed American Robin, OP. I don't think they put too much thought into what type of Robin to put in the film, to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
yuuus, bird fandom ftw :-0

[identity profile] countess-k.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
You shallow person. The American Robin is cute on the inside, which is what really matters.

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF CUTE. WANT. MUST GET.

[identity profile] streetcake.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I love American robins, but I never see(on tv or in real life)those cute lil fat robins. So I agree if only cuz I think they're really cute(and so round!!)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
It would have been ugly no matter what kind bird they modeled it after, that us just one ugly ass fake bird.

[identity profile] lemon-m.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
this, damn

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, I always wondered why that robin looked so weird. I mean, apart from the fact that it was a bad puppet, obviously.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto. I thought it was a robin prop built by someone who'd never actually seen a robin before. No idea that there was a different species (?) in America.

Mind you, Disney also thinks that raccoons and skunks wander the English countryside (101 Dalmations) so I reckon its their wildlife ignorance more than mine.

They probably didn't even think about it. I doubt most people, US or British, know the difference between the two species.

American Robins are cute too though. >:(

Woah, as a Brit I always assumed that robin looked crappy and fake because it was, well, crappy and fake. I never realised that's what American robins look like! (It's also really weird to me that Americans think of robins as Spring birds, when over here they're all about Christmas!)

The image is of a British robin? It looks just like the ones in my area, and I live in the US.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
The Robin they used was pretty ugly by American Robin standards. Most of them are actually adorable. Especially when they puff up. Can't they both be cute?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
this has bothered me ever since i was little (and i'm from the usa). i'm glad someone else noticed

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck you, you ruined American robins for me. Now when I see them come around in the spring, I'm just gonna be disappointed they're not OMFG THAT IS THE CUTEST WITTLE ITTY BITTY THING I'VE EVER SEEEEEEEENNNNN!!!!!!!!!!

jk jk, but seriously, I didn't know that before, and now I agree with you. And that thing is serious the cutest fucking creature I've ever laid eyes on *cough* right-click, save.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
yes, because the makers knew all movie-goers are also expert bird watchers and can only identify a robin by it's american identifiers.

Honestly, if it has a red belly and is a little bit larger than a sparrow I assume it's a robin.

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
now I wish robin wank was real thing.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)

Both types of robin are super adorable, they just picked a really bad looking prop to use for the American. Thanks OP now that dang song is stuck in my head.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-24 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Disney shits on accuracy like that. They put a South-American anteater in The Lionking for god's sake XD
However, I think that bird was fugly because it was fake.
All robins are cute!
