LMAO at all the HP stans getting butthurt about the Oscars and taking it out on the LotR.

LotR was a cinematic masterpiece. HP was mediocore at best.

This, lol. And as much of an HP fan as I am, I tend to agree with the above poster, the HP movies really weren't nearly as good as the books and LotR handled the movie adaptation a lot better. But this happened back in what, 02? O.O

Unless they're talking about the Hobbit, idk.

I haven't really got opinions on the LotR movies seeing as I haven't watched them since they came out, but I'd say the Harry Potter film franchise was equivelant to the books in that it was wildly uneven from installment to installment.

I like both (both books, anyways) too, that's why the rabid fans are annoying as fuck. They brought LotR into for no reason, lotr was done like eight years ago. Seriously, there's no competition anymore.

A-FUCKING-MEN

The HP series isn't a literary masterpieces but it's enjoyable enough. The movies, on the other hand, are just terrible and poorly acted.

Now an adult I look back and see all the flaws and writing problems in HP, but even then there's still a part of me that loves it and defends it fiercely, merely because it was present throughout my childhood. It's what made me want to be a writer.

Saying that...the films were absolutely nothing compared to Lord of the Rings. I still watch Lord of the Rings. I don't watch the HP films without massive second-hand embarrassment.
The battle scenes, the costumes, the soundtrack, the scale and atmosphere, Lord of the Rings was a masterpiece. Harry Potter was...alright. Not bad. It had child actors (which really says everything. I can rarely find one good child actor, let alone THREE).

Then again, one is definitely adult while the other is for children and (the last few) for teenagers. I never really understood why they were compared in the first place. It's like the fans who compare Twilight to Harry Potter. There's no reason to do so! Being popular isn't enough common ground for a comparison!
