Nope, you're doing it right.

I prefer Superman to Batman myself. I feel that Batman is ridiculously over-powered and Superman really is okay.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
How is he over-powered? We hardly ever see him fight! There's him punching out Dr. Freeze in one hit in the first episode - that fight needed to be short to fit in the episode, Robin has already cracked the glass and *Spoilers* we later found out Dr. Freeze threw the fight. Later he takes out Clayface after the team lost - again needed to be short to fit in the episode, the team had presumably already weakened him AND Clayface is a familiar opponent. Then their's the fight against the aliens where he *loses* in the first five minutes!

The only cool fight is against the group of villains and even then it wasn't like Batman came alone nor was his skill level unbelievable *Spoilers* Kaldur had to get Dr. Fate's help!

Seriously, you can say he's too friendly and goody-goody or too good at reading Robin's emotions and I'll buy it, but we don't see any evidence of being "over-powered".

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
have you actually been watching young justice? Because superman has been acting like a dick because someone cloned him, and now he's taking it out on the teenage clone of himself instead of taking it out on the people that actually fucking cloned him.

Also, Batman is ridiculously over-powered? Compared to Superman? Bitch, please, let me direct you over to the series finale of Justice League.

[identity profile] maxi1234.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
I was talking generally, because generally, everyone thinks Superman is a jerk and Batman is awesome. I don't watch YJ.

But Superman is an alien and Batman is a freaking regular human and he can defeat enemies that other superheroes have trouble defeating because- what? He's smart? What is he, the smartest man in the universe?

He constantly beats enemies that by any right he shouldn't, just because he's popular. That seems ridiculously overpowered to me.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen to many things with batman in it to think that he's overpowered, he does get his ass kicked from time to time and shows physical weaknesses. The only superpower he really has is extreme tenacity.

[identity profile] rebecky-mo.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm...I dunno, in between in all of this? :/

I don't totally blame Superman's attitude in YJ; if I had a clone of myself thrown in front of me, I'd be a little unsure about the the whole thing too. But I do wish he'd sit Superboy down and have an actual talk, instead of avoiding the situation altogether. Draw the line in the sand.

As for Batman...IMO, he hasn't really done a hell of a lot in YJ, good or bad. Most of what we've seen him do is give out the missions. He has given some help/positive feedback to the kids, and tried to talk to Clark about Superboy, but I think that's because this is the time in his life where he was raising Dick, and can sympathize with the kids a bit.

Personally, I'm too busy loving Black Canary, Red Tornado and Captain Marvel's interactions with the kids to pay much attention to those two. <3

[identity profile] tastylogic.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Black Canary is the BEST adult in YJ, in my opinion. I can't wait for the next season for more of her special brand of kick assness.

And I agree about Superman. It has to be a huge mind fuck to meet your teenaged clone face to face, but to still be running away from the situation at this point is annoying me. I'd like to see them have a talk soon.

[identity profile] rebecky-mo.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed on a million levels, but Captain Marvel is coming up fast behind her the more I see of him interaction with YJ. He's a kid like them, but they don't know that ad just think he's a weird adult.

And as of the episode 'Secret', it's been almost 4 months since CADMUS, and about 3 months since we last saw Clark and Connor talk (if we can even count that as a talk). Yeah, we're due for a confrontation.

I agree with everything you've just said.

I can understand Superman's problem with Superboy: his DNA got stolen in order to create a clone that's meant to replace him, so I can see him being uncomfortable with Superboy. And, on the other hand, I feel terribly for Superboy who just wants to be aknowledged by Clark.

I actually find this storyline really interesting and I can't wait to see how the show continues to develop it.

I also like Batman, and agree that having Robin as a sidekick is softening him up the YJ team. Though Black Canary, Red Tornado, and Captain Marvel are my favorite Justice League heroes so far on this show.

Captain Marvel is so adorable. I love his interactions with the team!

(Anonymous) 2012-01-28 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I find this really interesting, because compared to how they're usually portrayed, their roles have been almost swapped. Batman is more hands-on, more of an active mentor, and Superman is uncomfortable and keeping his distance. But I think it actually makes sense for the series, compared to a show like Justice League where Clark was the heart and Bruce liked to lurk and handle things on his own. After all, Batman has lots of experience working with junior partners, having them by his side in work and at home. Whereas Superman wasn't really part of Kon's life for years in the comics, and later on sort of dumped him in Smallville and took off. And while he tries to be supportive of Kara, she's her own person with her own life almost as soon as she starts working as Supergirl and while he checks in her, their relationship often feels more teacher-student than friends/family.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think you're doing it wrong exactly, Superman can't really be blamed for having a poor reaction to Superboy. Having someone clone you without your permission is a violation of your personal autonomy. It's not like he had sex with a woman and the birth control didn't work, that's a risk people take every time they have PIV sex, he literally did nothing that could reasonably be expected to put him in a position of responsibility towards a child.

However, I think he needs to sit down and explain that to Superboy. Avoiding the situation is clearly causing Superboy a great deal of pain (arguably as much pain as Superman is in) and I think that Superboy's pain needs to be priorities over Superman's (enough for a fank discussion - not necessarily have Superman become Superboy's father) due to Superboy's age.

(Also, from a purely pragmatic perspective we want the superpowered teenagers to be as well adjusted as possible.)

Personally, I like Batman in YJ because he actually seems like a good Dad! Which is pretty much a miracle.

[identity profile] captain-emily.livejournal.com 2012-01-28 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I need to break down and watch this. Young Justice was one of my favorite comics during its run, but my free time has been very limited recently. So while I've heard all about the YJ series, I've never actually gotten around to watching it. But if it has Bruce acting like a good father and a conflicted-over-Kon Clark, I really need to hurry up and get to it. I love Daddy Bruce and wasn't really happy with how Kon was handled in the books. After Clark came back from the dead, he kind of just ditched Kon in Smallville and let the Kents handle it. I expected better of him, and maybe I'll get that in the animated series.

[identity profile] gabzillaz.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
The cartoon is very different from the comics, though. There are not using the same characters.

and maybe I'll get that in the animated series

So far? Nope :/

(Anonymous) 2012-01-28 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
u be trolling

everyone knows Batman is a douche-bag (THAT'S THE POINT) and Superman is his better half

(Anonymous) 2012-01-29 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Except in Young Justice they kind of turn that on its head - Bruce is more supportive of the team, he has to sit Clark down and encourage him to talk to Superboy.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
You clearly haven't been watching the animated Young Justice. Batman's actually a good parent (so far).

(Anonymous) 2012-01-29 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
OT, I always feel like I'll get jumped if I say how much Batman annoys me.

Out of curiosity, why are you pissed at this version of Batman/Bruce? Is it that he's trying to get Clark to deal with Connor earlier than he feels comfortable with, or is there another issue that I'm missing?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-29 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like he's trying to get Clark to deal with Conner earlier than he feels comfortable, and the way that he jumps immediately to "he's your son" when he does try to talk to Clark bothers me. I also feel like there's this undercurrent of classism in the way Batman acts, like he's this rich guy who can afford (and chose to) take in a kid, and thus he expects everyone to just do the same, whereas Clark is just a reporter, who had it thrust upon him. Then the way he acted after "Failsafe" when he was talking about how he expected the team to be "over it" already... That just bugged me. Yeah Bruce, you're the poster child for getting over emotional trauma, aren't you?

[personal profile] fahrbotdrusilla 2012-01-29 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, those are actually some really good reasons, especially the Failsafe team trauma thing which had slipped my mind when I asked.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but he's not asking Clark to raise Connor, he's just asking for him to treat him like a son, or at least like a person with actual emotions that are capable of being hurt. Connor already has a home. And it's pretty obvious that is not the reason why Clark refuses to acknowledge Connor.

Are you serious? They're both jerks, in my opinion.

[identity profile] gabzillaz.livejournal.com 2012-01-30 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'd agree if this was about the comics, but in Young Justice? Bruce is actually pretty cool.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-30 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
If this is about the superboy issue specifically...

I dunno I'm torn. I don't think superman necesarily owes superboy his attentions, and I totally like how uncomfortable he is.

But I can't buy supes would leave a kid who wants his help without even trying.

I'd love to see him trying and failing because of his uncomfortableness with the situation, so long as he tries.
