Out of curiosity, why are you pissed at this version of Batman/Bruce? Is it that he's trying to get Clark to deal with Connor earlier than he feels comfortable with, or is there another issue that I'm missing?

I feel like he's trying to get Clark to deal with Conner earlier than he feels comfortable, and the way that he jumps immediately to "he's your son" when he does try to talk to Clark bothers me. I also feel like there's this undercurrent of classism in the way Batman acts, like he's this rich guy who can afford (and chose to) take in a kid, and thus he expects everyone to just do the same, whereas Clark is just a reporter, who had it thrust upon him. Then the way he acted after "Failsafe" when he was talking about how he expected the team to be "over it" already... That just bugged me. Yeah Bruce, you're the poster child for getting over emotional trauma, aren't you?

Thanks, those are actually some really good reasons, especially the Failsafe team trauma thing which had slipped my mind when I asked.

I felt that the Failsafe comment was him failing to grasp other people's emotions properly (standard Batman thing, really). He didn't seem angry that they hadn't, he seemed really rather sad. I read that as "I'm sad my kids are hurting" which takes the sting out of his lack of comprehensions of other peoples emotions.

Yeah, but he's not asking Clark to raise Connor, he's just asking for him to treat him like a son, or at least like a person with actual emotions that are capable of being hurt. Connor already has a home. And it's pretty obvious that is not the reason why Clark refuses to acknowledge Connor.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-29 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Why should he though? I mean, really, why should he. Yes, they are genetically related, but honestly? Both are hurting, and to expect Clark to just nut up and acknowledge Conner as a son without addressing any of the other issues involved is just ridiculous and ignorant of understand people's emotions.

this

plus, seeing an exact copy of yourself as a teenager is fucking weird and would probably make anyone hesitant. Not to mention the chilling fact that someone actually managed to take your DNA and make a clone that was going to be used for evil purposes (and for all you know, if they managed to do it, then maybe other people have done it too and there could be a whole army of creepy, evil clones ready to fuck shit up).

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
That's all true, but Superman shouldn't be taking that out on Conner. Conner is a child and Superman is an adult. Superman doesn't have to be father of the year, or even any sort of father, but he does need to have a conversation with him.

[identity profile] mika-kun.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Superman is the adult. Conner is the child. Conner gets priority. I'm not saying that Superman should be happy and totally accepting, but I think he needs to have a goddamn discussion with Conner.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2012-01-29 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
And exactly what other issues are involved? Clark may have some issues but he needs to acknowledge that Connor didn't asked to be cloned, none of this situation is his fault, and that he does look up to superman.

And to turn your question around, what good reason does Clark have to ignore Connor? Because he's a clone? Connor did not choose to exist, but he does, and no matter how much Clark ignores him Connor isn't going to disapear into nonexistence.

And asking Clark to treat Connor with decency isn't exactly asking much, he doesn't even need to mean it, he just needs to do it.
