Don't mind her, girls in fandom often tend to be against everything girly and think that if you like to take care of your appearance you're shallow. I used to be like that too because of my teenage life experiences.

I've had this experience. It's not all girls, it's not even the majority, but there are some girls in fandom who are passionately judgemental of anyone who chooses to wear make-up. No, actually, I should amend that - they're passionately judgemental of women who choose to wear make-up, if men wear it then it's sexy or kawaii or whatever. It's pretty damn gross, especially since they use it as an excuse to slut-shame, because they seem to think a woman would only go to the effort of applying lipstick if she wants a guy's attention.

I wear make-up because I love playing with colours and sparkle and it cheers me up. If somebody chooses not to wear make-up, it makes no difference to me. I probably won't even register it - it's default in my head to see people without make-up, so when somebody's wearing it I'll notice it, but if they're not my mind just processes it as the norm. And even then, I notice colours more than anything else. It doesn't change people's faces or speak of their personality, so I don't know why people should be judged either way.

Oh god. I had a friend like that. She got so passionate about not ever wearing make up. But at the same time she was a huge fan of male J-stars who never seemed to appear anywhere without make up. IDEK It got to a point where I didn't feel comfortable wearing cover up in high school. Now I finally have a few pieces. And oh how I love pink lipstick.

Glad you discovered something you enjoy! I had a friend who often talked about how women who wore make-up did it to hide their insecurities. She said this to my face, whilst I was wearing (noticeable) make-up. No amount of explaining that I wore it for me, because I enjoyed it could change her mind. Funny how she got a crush on a coworker and suddenly discovered a love of eye make-up...

I think some women do it to hide their insecurities. I know a couple who have admitted it straight-up. I usually don't wear make-up, but I use cover-up when I'm feeling self-conscious about my acne. You see me in make-up, it basically just means "I feel shitty and ugly today." I hate that I do it, but there you go.

I take issue with some people's use of "take care of your appearance" though because it varies so much. I think it's totally reasonable to expect people to maintain basic hygiene at least when interacting with others, and I don't think some lipstick and eyeshadow or a bit of foundation or something every day is too much for those who want to wear it (and nobody should be obligated to wear any makeup they don't want to or don't feel like going through the effort for). But I've seen too many people who consider the bare minimum to be an hour or two of hair and makeup every day, and anything less leaves them unsuitable for viewing by another human being. And that wouldn't even bother me if it was just for them, but if that's their standard by which they judge everybody I don't like it.

I don't understand how some (in this case; most) people work. "Oh, I'm just gonna apply enough makeup for two and waste this entire can of hairspray on my locks right before a good hour or two at the tanning salon BECAUSE I TAKE CARE OF MYSELF since, y'know, dignity."

I think it's those people who feel insecure about themselves, but they tend to be the ones who give a bad name to everyone else who are happy to throw on a little lipstick and eyeshadow and go.

This is also true. I know a girl who goes so crazy with her hair and makeup that she makes lady gaga look natural. All because she enjoys the hell out of it. It looks really nice too lol I dunno how, but it's impressive. I'd post a picture if that wasn't creepy
