I'll give it a chance, because I like BBC!Sherlock and want to see other modern adaptations (no, things like House don't count.) I don't actually like the original stories that much. Am I doing it wrong or right here?

I think House is only inspired by Holmes, not actually meant to be an adaption?

There's nothing wrong with that. The stories were never perfect, and, just like with any anything, if it's not enjoyable that's okay. Adaptations being more accessible than the source material isn't anything new.

House is essentially a Sherlock Holmes adaptation if you go and watch it. In fact, here are some direct quotes from a House episode and a Sherlock episode:
Sherlock: Will caring about them help save them?
John: Nope.
Sherlock: Then I'll continue to not make that mistake.

House: You think she cares? You think the husband cares? You think the children, she can now have because of me, are gonna care WHY I saved her?

While I was watching that Sherlock episode I was literally screaming at my computer: "This. Is. PLAGARISM!!!" Lol, not that I actually think that, but they are VERY similar.
