So agreed, anon. So agreed. Fan poetry is just awful, and I'm someone who generally likes poetry.

There's a poetry fic in XM:FC fandom and every time I see it's updated I shudder in secondhand embarrassment. The fic's okay on its own, mediocre but not bad, but the poetry is awful.

Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner. That is the exact thing that inspired this secret. The poetry is so bad, I weep. And the fact that people fawn over it makes me cringe. I'm not asking for full on sonnets, but something more than a few broken up sentences would be an improvement.

Not the anon above, but oh lord, that fic, that poetry! It's even worse since we're supposed to believe Erik is some kind of famous poet and the poems are so rubbish. I'm completely unable to suspend my disbelief when reading it! (Yes, it appears that superhumans with special powers are more believable to me than a literature professor being hired and published with those poems.)

I enjoyed the fic well enough, despite how fucking loooooong they dragged out the whole misunderstanding bit, but that poetry!

Super powers are easier to accept than that stuff. Though, to be fair, Erik could have been hired for his knowledge, as opposed to his body of work. Still, not sure I'd have much faith in him with those poems.

I thought so, too. I'm also fed up with the fic but it's not the poemsbecause honestly, writing poetry is seriously hard and if you have trouble finding someone with talent for it I can understand it. If the people behind that were at the supposed level they wouldn't write fic and I see it as making an effort.
What seriously pisses me off are the inconsistences for the university setting. It's not at all hard tofindsomeone who has experienced that in fandom! I feel like you just didnt care to find ut that you have more than three works to read per semester if you take a 4 level lit course, if your interpretations are absyssimal high school 101 and if you can't check when Erik would have encountered English (which is 5th grade instead of college) and English poetry (around 8th notto mention the exisranceof poetry in German[at least possible before Auschwitz]) and used yur energy you could have used for checking wikipedia in 2 minutes for poetry you have no talent for and I could have done without. There!

Not to mention that psycho therapists probably don't agree with the way Emma handles stuff and the idea that a humanist prof is in awe of a science prof... If you ever went to college you would have noticed the war between deparments about funding which is always distributed according to how "useful" profitable or marketable things are and never reflects the student ratio... The thought that the science departement is inheritable better than humanities because what they do makes money instead of -say- worthlessly discussing books or history all day should send any lit professor into a rant of epic proporsions.

Look how late I am! My link is to the collections, since there is now a sequel fic and a second set of poems.

Looking at the poetry with the "Entire Work" view, I think the longest line of any of the poems contains four words. Pretty much every other line is either two words or one, rarely three.
