I love when anime is about girls bonding.

But moe shit creeps me out because of the fanservice. I know a lot of anime has fanservice, but moe bothers me a lot.

Lucky Star*, K-ON and Idolm@ster have less fanservice than most anime. Popular, "fandom-accepted" stuff like Eva or Bebop definitely have more fanservice than them both.

*Yeah, I'm aware that this is kinda cheating since the super-cartoony nature of the art-style mostly prevents fanservice.

Oh, I know they don't have a lot of blatant fanservice. But I can't help but feel the characters are still pandering to the male fanbase. I can't explain it :(

Most female characters are pandering to a male audience (unless they're from ultra SRS anime like Monster or Paranoia Agent or from a show for little girls, and even then it's not clear cut).

I mean, Sailor Moon girls were redrawn with longer legs and given shorter skirts in the TV show. Asuka and Rei were cleraly intended to be liked by the male audiences. Even Lain from Serial Experiments Lain was made as lovable as possible. If you're going to swear off everything that feature females that the staff wants are appealing to older males, you would be left with only SOME little girl stuff and normal people stuff (Afternoon/Josei adaptations) like the previously mentioned Monster or Nana.
