Master Chief is gay. Calling it now. Although if that did happen, it'd be put under "Word of Gay" on TV tropes and people would be very upset with Bungie for adding to the growing roster of gay characters who got to be gay without love interests in canon and without any risk of affecting sales.

There's a phrase for that? When a character is explicitly stated as being gay but, for SOME REASON, they're never hooking up like all the other happy campers in the series/whatever?

Sometimes they are hooking up, but doing it ambiguously, so people argue about the nature of the relationship until the creator confirms.

Maaaan I want fic where the Master Chief is gay! Best case scenario is him and Male!Shepard getting together and being generally awesome while having tons of really athletic, macho sex.
