Did this happen somewhere in the Metal Gear series? Or is that all fanon? I don't know. I tried to play the one for NES, but I kept dying in the very beginning when wolves ate me or something.

I think a lot of it is fanon... but the context for it is pretty freaking obvious.

It's never outright stated that Ocelot was in love with Big Boss, but it's pretty blatant. Also, in Peace Walker there is that side thing where you can have a date with Kaz that ends with sex in a box.

Who do you have in mind, OP?

I found two articles today (which I don't have links for anymore, sorry) that were seriously talking about how Nathan Drake could be an awesome gay character, and it might help stop some ignorance because then people would look at him and think, "Hey, this doesn't change anything I like about him. He's still badass and now I know he likes men. That's cool."

Maybe that's someone they had in mind as well?

This just happened in Homestuck! We're getting to see the manliest, coolest character as a kid... and he's planning the manliest, coolest proposal of love for the other main male character. Dudes were tying themselves into knots trying to explain it away/blame the author for pandering to fangirls/declaring shark jumpery.

This happened to some degree with Anders in Dragon Age. There was no indication that he was into guys in the first game, and the second game comes around and suddenly Anders has got an ex-boyfriend and hits on male and female PCs alike.

He's not exactly a "manly man" type though. But it still pissed off a lot of people.

On a directly related note, Homestuck fandom has been really entertaining to watch recently.

That's one of the few kinds of wanks^t I don't enjoy :(
It always just reminds me that no matter how much I can love a video game community outside of safe spaces (ie: lj and tumblrs and private friend lists), it's still full of unreasonable, reactionary jackasses.

But I still want more out/ed characters in games anyways that aren't nearly always camp stereotypes (not that I don't love camp).

That would be AWESOME. Too bad it never happens.

Master Chief is gay. Calling it now. Although if that did happen, it'd be put under "Word of Gay" on TV tropes and people would be very upset with Bungie for adding to the growing roster of gay characters who got to be gay without love interests in canon and without any risk of affecting sales.
