The acting was good, sure. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the story was awful.

I found the writing too distractingly bad in many scenes to appreciate anyone's acting anyway. I think my favourite of Matt's performances was in Doctor's Wife though.

IA. He was at his best in The Doctor's Wife. Probably, in part, because the writing was better. Like, he reacted believable to situations.

Great scenes from one character--even the main one--does not a good season make.

I have a loooot of issues with series 6. Matt's acting isn't one of them. I will say, I'm able to enjoy it much more when I'm not sitting there marveling at the ridiculousness of the storylines.

Unrelated, but yaaaaaay Stormageddon.

Stormageddon was fantastic!

I thought the second half of season 6 was better than the first part. I liked a lot of the individual episodes. I thought Matt was great through the whole thing; it's just the major story arcs were such a freaking mess that never felt like they really got resolved.

IA IA. I liked a lot of the individual episodes in the back half of season 2 ("The Girl Who Waited" is far and away my favorite episode of Moffat Who, "The God Complex" is a solid episode, and "Closing Time" is quite enjoyable as well), but unfortunately those episodes were surrounded by the disaster that was the series arc.

I think there were some serious missteps in Series 6, but I've never had anything bad to say about Matt's acting. He's done some great stuff with the role, and I thought he knocked it out of the park all season long.

I positively hate the final season of my favorite show but it also features some of the best moments for one of my favorite characters and my favorite couple. Sometimes you'll have a shitty season with really wonderful moments.

I feel that way about a lot of arcs in long running manga- so agree, basically.

ITA that Matt had some brilliant performances in those episodes, as did the rest of the cast. Then again, I don't hate 6.5 as much as most people, though I admit it was problematic. But I think all the seasons have been, to some extent.

I agree with this. I mean, if you dislike the storyline, fine. But I liked it. And I thought Matt's acting was amazing. And my opinions on it are just as valid. I wish the people who hated that season would realize that the opinions of those who liked it are equally valid.

Yeah, people should be free to like what they like. So long as you have a safe place to enjoy and/or rant over things without haters coming in to rain on your parade, it's all good. :)

Oh, me too! Let's just sit here and be positive about S6.5! Even the places that I was in for supposedly positive, non-wank conversations during into just a bunch of complaining. Also, I always take it much too personally.

I'm fine with people disliking it, but a lot of them seem to think that their point of view is the only one. And I agree that they bring up wank even in places that are trying to be positive and talk about good things. I'd like to have some places where we can just talk about how epic some of us found the storyline, how awesome we think River is, and how much we like Moffatt's direction for the show. I mean, I feel the same way about people who bash Rose or Martha or season 3 or whatever. There is a line between disliking and bashing, and there is a time and place for it. I love all of New Who, and sometimes it is nice to have some simply positive places.

I agree completely - the storylines made me want to tear my hair out, ADORED Matt's acting.

My only problem with the second half of series 6 is the lack of reference to River Song. Amy and Rory only talk about her a few times here and there but it doesn't feel like they worry about their kid.
The rest if fantastic. The God Complex stands in my top 10 of New Who and The Girl who Waited is perfect in every sense. The Night Terrors in enjoyable (I liked it better after watching it again). The Wedding of River Song is good and far better than some previous finales (series three-cof cof) but I felt that episode 12 was unnecessary to the series. It was good but I don't really care about it.
