Tumblr just confuses me. There's no dialogue or conversation going on, it's just re-blogging. I don't understand how people interact on it.

+1. I hear people even post fic on it, but I can't even figure out how they communicate!

Absolutely agreed. I roam tumblr and enjoy wasting time there, but that's usually because I'm searching out conversations and such that have almost nothing to do with me. I hate that there's this barrier around everyone. I try to strike up conversations or throw in some thoughts about an image I like. But usually there's no response and it makes me kind of sad.

For me, the point of it isn't to really interact. You find people with like minds who post stuff you like and you reblog it/like it. They do the same. That in itself is the connection. You don't have to really talk. I save the talking for my LJ mostly.

Yes, exactly.

+1

I sometimes like it for teh pretty, but I do not understand how it would work as anything other than a supplement to LJ/forums/etc. where you can actually talk about things.

It's not really for interacting, which I like, because I'm realizing that I'm not good at making friends online. Tumblr's good for me because it's basically, you follow a blog you like, reblog stuff you like, get followed and be happy about it, feel accomplished when something you post gets lots of notes, read the blogs of people you know and see them in school the next day and get the feeling that you know too much, and there's always ask boxes if interaction is absolutely necessary, and for me, it often isn't. I'm an antisocial weirdo though, and I understand that that format sucks for a lot of things. I was really confused my it too at first.

Lies. I just made two really good friends via my fandom Tumblr, and we have huge discussions on it. You get what you put into it.

[identity profile] unicornherds.livejournal.com 2012-02-12 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
So how do you converse on it? The only way I've seen people having discussions is by re-blogging a post and adding a comment to the end - which is really clumsy and difficult to track.

I mean hey, if that's your thing and it makes sense to you, good for you. But re-blogging is not what I consider conversation.
ext_40256: (Yahtzee thinks this is interesting)

There is that, but also having ask conversations. :D
