(Personally, while I am very aware that I am not a grey-skinned alien with horns and oddly coloured blood, I think that describing human relationships in terms of quadrants is popular not because people think they are really aliens or that trolls are real, but rather because our culture tends to devalue all relationships that are neither blood/adoptive family nor sexually motivated. If the most important person in your life is not someone you are banging or ever want to bang, the concept of moirallegiance can feel really validating. If you have had the uncomfortable--and yes, incredibly fucked-up--kind of relationship where you're wildly sexually attracted to someone you cannot otherwise STAND and are constantly furious with, the idea of kismesis makes a certain kind of sense--and gives you a name for the kind of attraction you've experienced before and would now prefer to avoid. And so forth.)
