Perhaps I'm too invested in internet weirdness, but does anyone remember Gor? It was this pretty stupid fantasy/sci-fi book series that had a lot of sexual master/slave relationships that was very much like the way some people practice 24/7 BDSM. Unsurprisingly, some fans of 24/7 BDSM got ahold of the books and started using some of the concepts in their actual relationships.

Homestuck quadrants are tame shit compared to that, and I think it's actually really cute to have a word for a best friend that recognizes the relationship as an important one! A lot of people think that having a best friend is kid stuff, and it makes me really sad to see adults who don't have one, or really any friends at all, or even who don't think friendship is really that important. I don't do quadrants myself, but I really do like the whole "treating platonic relationships as a thing" bit. I'm also wondering if people who do polyamory could adapt this into something that might be useful for some of them- not involving hate dates or anything, but if there were multiple kinds of relationships that they wanted to have and they wanted to reserve one slot for each, or something like that. (I also don't do polyamory, but it's interesting to see how different people make it work and such.)
