You sound young. No seriously, you are saying that the worldbuilding and such isn't original, it's only that way because people have been copying it for decades. I remember being blown away by Starwars it when it came out. The scale of it was just boggling. It was a neat, fun, exciting story with kick ass special effects during a time when that wasn't the norm at all. Remember this was 1977 -- no CGI, kick-ass women characters were unbelievably rare, it was a much more naive and ethnocentric time. Seeing all these cultures and creatures and worlds on the screen was mind-blowing.

Single-biome planets is so original and amazing, guys

Jesus Fucking Christ, shut up about this shit.

Single-biome planets are pretty lazy universe-building. Except they've been done by like, *every science fiction property on the fucking planet*!

I mean, seriously, Dune? Basically Tatooine with giant worms. Pretty much every major scifi TV show did this, all kinds of Scifi movies did this!

There are ten thousand different reasons for it, from the fact that it's cheaper to just build one set per planet to the fact that sometimes things do actually happen that way.

Tatooine? Arrakis without culture, history, or an ecosystem.

Stfu about how "unoriginal" Dune is if you haven't bothered reading the books, jfc.

In 1977, yes. They kind of were.

OP sounds pretty dim for not getting how these films were basically setting some new story-telling standards given when they were released. There's something to be appreciated for that. But while I personally think the trilogy aged well, I kind of understand if it doesn't exactly hold up if they've only just gotten around to seeing them. It's a bit like games, mechanics and graphics-wise; what was groundbreaking and pushing limits during any early generation is either ugly or irksome now (retro goggles notwithstanding).

This.
