I don't know what to tell you, except that she has to be the one to DO something about her life, and if she isn't willing to, all you can say is that you did what you could.

Of course the parents need to do something too, but if they can't/won't, then no one will. In the end, it's not your problem.

She's 24, but that's actually still pretty young. There's people in their 40-50's who still live at home, but I think those are different situations.

Oh yeah, the parent thing alone wouldn't be worthy of laughter, I (#11 OP) live with my parents and I'm 21.

'Course I'm in pre-med classes and working in nursing care nights and weekends and applying to med school next quarter (and I go outside. with my friends.), but I do live at home.

The problem isn't where she lives or even that she's dependent, the problem is that she's scarily delusional. I've talked to her many times and she really will not consider any career besides being not only a professional artist, but a diva artist who only draws what she wants and faces no critique or editing. I think she'd actually turn down a real art job (if Hell froze and she was offered one), if it required working to a client's specifications even when they didn't fit her own taste.

Someday her parents will run out of money or patience, and I do worry. I can see her ending up literally homeless.

Oh Jesus wept. Most artists end up doing commercial art of some kind if they have a career in art. The ones who make money off of say, Cafepress of Deviantart are either GOD or have many works that appeal to many people. Either way, I'd imagine it'd require work. Judging from her work, she doesn't have a chance unless she improves a great deal.

There is no such artist that goes without harsh criticism, and that's true in any creative field. If she can't handle that, then she's screwed. She is so going to get ripped apart, but hey, at least she's determined, right? Still, she might be one of those people who end up wasting their lives going after what is unattainable to them. It's a wait and see thing, but I'm not optimistic.

As for being homeless, yikes, that's a worst case scenario, but sadly possible.
