Is she THAT big of a name, though? I mean, I've never seen Lost, so I don't have that background with her.

Man, this episode. I think this episode was the one that had the most mixed feedback of any OUAT episode. Some people loved it, and it nearly made one of my friends quit OUAT, she hated it so much.

She really hated the writing, and she was really pissed off that Rumples was the Beast. She loves Rumples, but she just really disliked that aspect in particular.

I think that's a bit of an over dramatic reason to quit a show over, but I can see where she's coming from. I wasn't too thrilled about Rumpelstiltskin being the beast either, but I made peace with it after I saw the show. It worked given the context of the show.

I do wish the whole Rumpel/Belle thing could've been drawn out better, but there was only so much they could show development-wise in less than 45 minutes of screen time. )8

She didn't quit the show, but it was more of a "if this continues... *fist shake*", especially since this episode was the one she'd been looking forward to for quite some time.

There's the usual outcry of Stockholm Syndrome for B%B. There's the lack of relationship development between B&B. Seriously, they spent more time setting it up and tearing it down; she goes there, is informed of her duties, and then it's months later and she's in love w/him....why? What happened that made her fall in love w/him? We're not shown that--I missed this part myself; really wanted to se it.

He didn't even tell her about his son after promising her to do so. He was enraged by her and made her leave. The moral was true love can't conquer all--Belle left b/c of the Beast's insecurity and self-esteem; instead of the moral being that you can be ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside and that is what counts and that if so, you will still find true love.

I think I've covered most, if not all, of the complaints about this show.

Kind of off topic, but ngl, I thought and still think Emilie de Ravin looks so weird with that hair. It looks so fake to me. D:

Yeah, I have to agree that throughout the entire episode I kept thinking "brown wig, brown wig, that's obviously a wig".... kind of like that episode of LOST where she wore a black wig. *shrug*

And while I'm here, OMG I loved that episode. I loved all of the interactions between Regina and Mr Gold, those were perfect and amazing. I love their dynamic, and adding a love interest for Mr Gold gave it a whole new dramatic layer that I just ate up with a spoon.

I was going to say similar things. Honesty here though, I had no idea who this actress was before this secret, never watched Lost. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite fairy tales. I hardly ever get really invested in t.v shows, even ones I really enjoy, and this episode really held my attention. I thought the interaction between all the characters was very well done and heart breaking, at times.

Huh, I didn't know she was that famous. She looked vaguely familiar to me, but I didn't recognize her. And anyway, while I'm not sure I like their take on Belle, I think her acting was great, she was lovely.

Outside of fandom, she's not a big name and I'd argue she's not even a big name unless you were a consistent follower of LOST or Roswell. Even then for the general TV viewing audience, putting a brown wig on her will fool most of them anyway. My mother watched LOST all the way through and still had no idea who she was.

I really did not like her as Belle. That episode also just did not work for me though, between the writing and the terrible wig I was not enjoying myself.

I usually don't have high expectations of the show (it's cheesy fun) but that was the first episode that kind of bothered me.

I would have liked to see another actress play Belle, honestly. Also, there seems to be from my internet pokings that some of the negativity about this ep is Rumple's behavior and the blink-you'll-miss-it relationship develop.
I don't think Rumples was OOC, but this needed to be a story-arch, not a one-shot. Given though, that she is IN Storybrooke, we will see more of her.

I'm a huge fan of LOST and made sure to see every episode but seeing her as Belle with the wig didn't bother me at all. =X Sorry it ruined it for you though.

And wow, seems like a lot of hate for this episode. I'm shocked...to me it was the best episode so far for OUAT
