yeah i mean i watch the show and i'll admit i'm probably biased because finn is not exactly my favorite (http://hypocriticalfinn.tumblr.com/post/13159363820/my-10-favorites) anyway

but basically my problem with the whole situation was that finn's outing of santana was pretty much treated like no big deal. nobody actually called him out on it but santana herself-- not his gay stepbrother, not his girlfriend whose dads are gay. meanwhile santana has to go through a lot of terrible things like becoming estranged from her grandmother because she called finn chubby. i agree that she was cruel to him for pretty much no reason, but in my opinion there's just no excuse for outing someone ever.

(ideally, she'd have gotten in trouble for the bullying and that would have been the end of it. but, of course, this is glee, and the school only has a no-bullying policy when it is convenient for the plot.)

tl;dr i agree that outing is not necessarily intrinsically worse than bullying (or vice versa), but within the context of the show i find it hard to sympathize with finn.

Just because the writing on Glee is shit and consequences are therefore arbitrary and non-proportional to the offense, doesn't mean that Finn's one statement calling her out in the hallways is really as bad as all the various things she did. And I LIKE Santana. She is by far my favorite, way more than Finn. But the whole storyline was just offensive from beginning to end and I think that both of the characters were poorly served by it. Like, sure Finn didn't have to face appropriate consequences... but then again, the result of his words went WAY beyond what is realistic in the real world... like, someone just HAPPENED to overhear him and she just HAPPENED to get maliciously outed in a political campaign? What? Seriously, what?

Glee is disappointing to me, constantly, but I really like the characters, and so what I try to do is separate who they are from what they do/what happens to them. Because what they do/what happens to them? Is far too often a complete and utter joke.

I'm offended all right. I'm offended by a show that gives me characters I love and then puts them through the stupidest and most inane made-up controversies just so they can sing certain songs.

Except, what part of what she said to him ended up with him being estranged from a family member? Or how about the fact that he, basically, blackmailed Santana into trying to get the Troubletones back into his choir?

Sorry, but to me? That combined with outing someone [common knowledge or not] is worse than calling someone chubby. Not that Santana is/was cuddles and sunshine, but still.

Ummm...Brittany outted Santana on her YouTube show at least half a season before Finn did.

Ummm...no she didn't. Brittany is known for not always wording things the way that other people do, and when she said that Santana now "played for the other team", she meant that Santana had stopped being a cheerleader and was in glee club instead. It had absolutely nothing to do with her sexuality.
