While I sympathize with your John Watson crush, the fact that you just labeled yourself "genius" and "brilliant" made me roll my eyes big time. It just makes you sound like you've been told you're a special snowflake one too many times.

Well maybe they really are a genius? Normally just randomly mentioning it would be silly, but in this case it is kind of relevant to the discussion since they're comparing theirself to a character with the same traits.

Maybe, but at the same time they worded it really does come off pompous - and could have just easily been summed up as 'I interact with my father just like those two interact'.

Hm. That's how I should have worded that. Curious, because that's really what I thought I was saying. You know, like that I appreciate my dad (and John) for encouraging cleverness, but always being tough enough to point out that, yes, other people do deserve consideration and, no, it's still not okay that I really just forgot other people have a tendency to see something different.
