(Anonymous) 2012-02-20 12:18 am (UTC)(link)I was about 6-years-old when I saw it. Up until then I had always insisted on being the damsel in distress when playing with friends, and I had regular daydreams where I was captured or in dire need of help and somebody (interestingly it wasn't always the prince - sometimes it would be the bad guy or a friend or a girl) would come and save me.
Then I saw this. I was SO pissed off that the butt-kicking heroine was "put into her place". I saw how humiliating and degrading the whole thing must've been for her - and only because she was in a gold bikini she didn't feel comfortable wearing. (If it had been me, I would've been smiling 'cause the outfit was pretty and golden. But she wasn't smiling so I figured she hated it.) For the first time I really understood what male dominance and humiliation at the hands of one meant, as a girl.
Since then I've learned to look for other things, but this scene still makes me uncomfortable. But for what's it worth, I really appreciate these movies, because they brought out the inner feminist in me. And if a guy ever asks me to dress up as Leia in golden bikinis, I'll dump their ass so hard. (I'd rather dance naked in public view.)

No, you say, "Oh, so you want to be the Jabba to my Leia? Ok!
BTW, you do remember that she chokes him to death, right?"

(Anonymous) 2012-02-20 02:17 am (UTC)(link)lol I'd probably be thinking it, but I wouldn't say it. I'm not that vindictive. Everyone is allowed to have their fantasies (and I don't do kink-shaming), but there are some I just don't want to be a part of. If I explained that it would make me feel uncomfortable to dress up like that and they still insisted on it, then yeah, I'd probably lash out and use some of my wittier (and nastier) comebacks to throw them off.

Oh... that was kinda bad of me, huh? Your SO asking you to do something isn't bad, as long as they're willing to accept "no" as an answer.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-20 09:57 am (UTC)(link)Eh, I don't think it was that bad of you. IMO everyone is entitled to be put off by a kink or two. It's just that I've dated a lot of kinky freaks (am one myself) so I usually end up raising my eyebrows instead of running away and flipping them the finger if they suggest something unorthodox and potentially offensive.
