Remember, anyone over thirty is ooooooold. But seriously, my mother is fifty-six and I would consider HER middle-aged. Definitely not thirty-eight. :/

I guess overexposure to media really skews perceptions of age sometimes :/. But middle-aged is such a fast-changing concept. In my opinion 38 is...kinda right on the fence between young and whatever comes between young and pre-middle-aged. Kinda the age you stereotypically expect most parents of very young children to be? I wouldn't call someone middle aged until their late forties, but other people have different understandings of it and blah blah blah. And then there's those people who have different ideas of what a certain age means for men and women (ugh).

yeah, I want to scream at people when they call forty year old actresses "old", particularly when they're playing mothers of teenagers. I still remember when I was about six and my mom asked me how old I thought her friend was. I said thirty-six, and her friend was super flattered (she was, in fact forty-nine). I didn't understand why anyone would be happy to be mistaken for thirty-six, but I was, you know, barely in elementary school.
