Okay- as a fellow gay dude to another gay dude in fandom, I just want to let you know that whatever the few vocal het shippers (and anyone else for that matter, really) say shouldn't have any bearing on how you feel about your shipping preferences. I don't think I can really give you so much other than a pep talk that it's your corner of the Internet, you ship what you want, they ship what they will, etc.

Honestly, I've gone through the whole "eew, slash is icky, you're gaying everything up, why you here?" kind of comments from a few people now and then, and it is irritating. It does make me angry when people could be homophobic (from plain ignorance to downright malice) and ostracise people like you and me in fandom because of mere shipping preferences, but you know what? They're on the other side of the world and there's nothing you can really do to them. You get even by being happier than they are, and if only sticking with m/m slash makes your day, to hell with them. Just don't stoop to their level and be a jerk about it- that's all.

Really, people like them only make me want to pursue a career in animation harder, so that I can help make canon gay characters and gay relationships in my preferred mediums, and those who don't like it can just suck it. Real hard. They can just thank themselves for fuelling my motivation for it. I make no apologies for mainly shipping m/m same sex relationships, even though it's just one component out of many for me which makes for a story I like; just like how shippers who ship only het wouldn't (and shouldn't) make any apologies for shipping what they do.

But yeah, chin-up. So you don't amuse yourself with as much het as you do slash, but so what? People shouldn't care about what you like, and you shouldn't care about what they think.
