I don't think there's anything lesser or confusing about shipping only for porn (especially since a lot of the time, the porn is in fact tied to emotional stuff). A person who isn't interested in a pairing isn't going to be "missing out on a lot" -- they're just not going to be wasting their time with something that doesn't interest them. Also, for me, shipping means that I want to read/write fic for the pairing, that's all. I can appreciate and enjoy a pairing, but not ship it (not feel inclined to read/write fic for it).

I don't know, I have the general understanding that shipping works differently for people, so I'm never like, "I just don't understand why people ship/don't ship this or that or this way, etc". It makes sense to me that people look to fandom and fic and shipping for different things.

For me shipping is reading/writing about a couple you like and you like it for your own reasons. I don't care if other people don't understand it... why should I care?

I'm not saying anything is "lesser" here. Just that I don't get the mentality. Also I think you're misunderstanding me a bit here; when I say I feel like these people are missing out, I don't mean by not reading things for ships that don't interest them. I mean only focusing on which characters look hot together and reading porn of them and such, while completely neglecting the other emotional aspects of the ship, not touching fic that isn't R18, etc. It's just. There are so many facets to shipping that I find it a bit sad that it's so common for people to only be interested in one little piece of it.

Ultimately I know I don't have to understand it, and it's fine for people to enjoy their shipping that way of course, but it still confuses me. That's all.
