Yeah, I hear you on that. Nothing kills my joy for fandom and all the fandomy things I do like the feeling that it's my job/duty.

Sometimes I think I'm doing fandom wrong when I take my fic writing as some fun hobby and not a an ~art form. Don't get me wrong, there are fics that are amazing and I would pay for if they were original fiction, but I can't get myself to freak over fic. Maybe because I'm not into English/Literature/writing in a professional way.

If you ask me you're doing fandom right by taking your fic writing as a fun hobby (though that point of view might be heavily influenced by me viewing fandom in general as a fun hobby).

If you are a fic writer yourself, that might be why you don't get all up over it when it comes to fic? That's the case for me anyway.

You might be right. I love writing in general but I spent so much time writing in my actual career (that is not artistic) that I don't want to suffer with fic, too.

Writing as strictly a hobby is really, really underrated by a lot of people, imo. "But why don't you write for money?!" Because that would take the "hobby" part and place it in a stranglehold that could quite possibly snuff out the desire to write at all.

When I told my father I write for fun, he was always questioning why I wouldn't try that professionally (he didn't know what I write, though). For me, fandom is fun and just fun.

Ditto, albeit it was my mother, not my father. Then again, I think people who say "you should write for money" don't know how hard it actually is to get anything published. (Self-publication is always an option, of course, but that isn't exactly cool breezin' either.)

(And I keep meaning to say, your icon is so gorgeous. I love that picture.)
