Tablets are pretty pricey, to be fair. So are most drawing programs.

Eh, but it's not like you can't do art using just GIMP and a mouse.

So are typing lessons and creative writing courses.

...which a lot of good writers have never had, whereas fanartists who are decent seem to have invested more money into this. I mean, I have no particular views about buying fanworks one way or another, but the main thing writers seem to invest is time.

So are computers, which the fic writers use to write and post their fanfics. Fic writers also lay out cash for note-cards, pens, markers, notebooks, books on how to improve their writing, etc. There are also specialized, expensive writing programs to purchase that help to make writing easier. There are also expensive writing courses that writers can take.

Fanartists and fic writers both invest money and time in their art. Yet it's only acceptable to pay fanartists? It's a huge double standard that needs to be eliminated. Either it's okay to pay both or you pay neither. I've never understood why it's okay to pay fanartists for anything at all when the rule of fandom is that no one is to profit off of the fandom art. Yet it's okay to pay fanartists and not fic writers. Yeah, no.

Also, I don't believe for one second that the only purpose of fanartists purchasing tablets and drawing programs is only for fanart. If they're purchasing that stuff strictly for fanart and they're charging for it, then they're making a living off of it and need to be shut down by the copyright holders for profiting off their product(s).

They're buying that stuff b/c they want to and b/c they most likely hope to make a living off their artistic talents of drawing (graphic designer, etc.). Fanart just helps them practice your skills the way fic writing lets fic writers practice their skills.
