I agree about the tons of bad slash, but I didn't really run into many self-inserts?
Though I haven't really been involved in LoK fandom for a handful of years.

i haven't been a part of the LoK fandom for a couple of years, but i remember there were a lot of "kain falls in love with pretty teen girl" fanfics back then. it always made me laugh because it's like, "seriously? are you completely unfamiliar with kain as a character?!!" D:
