i've been in every fandom mentioned so far by the replies and let me say this: i have significant quibbles with every one of them, but none of them have pissed me off so much as fucking 'sherlock'. even as someone who stuck with SPN through that mercifully brief phase when jared and jensen moved in together, the sheer amount of mindless squealing that the 'sherlock' fandom produces on an hourly basis is truly disgusting. you guys like benedict cumberbatch. you love him. you'd have all of his babies at once. i get it. now shut the fuck up. i'd look away but you keep polluting all the other fandoms your favourite actor shows up in with your 'sherlock' shite.

(i'm trying desperately to get into 'tinker tailor soldier spy' right now, except something like 7 out of every 10 fics is some sort of slobbering 'sherlock' crossover)

i honestly think this has something to do with the whole 'fandom as we know it' ('we' being the 'old guard' here, speaking as someone who has been legally permitted to drink for a while now but who isn't quite old enough to remember the fanzine golden age) moving off of lj, etc. and onto the masturbatory, self-congratulatory cesspool that is tumblr. the heart of fandom has gone off individual creation and become centred on the perpetuation of the oversaturated images and droll witticisms of 'our holy bnfs'. fandom has taken the shape less of a forum and more of a pinwheel of crap and 'sherlock' is right in the middle of it, its horse-faced, honey-voiced posterboy vomiting bullshit on every turn.
