4. Well, if they proclaimed themselves to be a hardcore fan who knew everything but refused to give the original version a chance I can see where you're coming from. But watching or liking the dub better than the original =/= Not True Fans. Being a fan means enjoying a series, end of story.

4. I'd usually agree with you, except when it comes to this particular series. It's not just that it was dubbed, it's that a lot of it was changed or dumbed down so completely that it wasn't even the same series anymore.

It's kind of like saying you're a Lord of the Rings fan when you've never read the books and all you've ever seen of it is the old-school cartoon version, dubbed in a language you're not fluent in. ;)

True, I guess you'd have to see the actual source to know whether you're a fan or not.

so you can't be a true fan unless you've watched it (and apparently understood it since fan translations can be equally as bad) in the original japanese?

Well, no, there's always manga versions. Graphic novel translations always keep the whole story regardless of how the dialogue and names are translated.
