(Anonymous) 2007-07-09 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)Still, I don't see why it's unfair to say that I like it better than the vast majority of what the big two have been putting out since DC booted up the whole crisis thing in 2005 and Marvel followed suit with its own mega-event deluge, beginning with House of M. Naturally I think there are a ton of Western comics (and non-Western comics, as well) that are better than Naruto in the grand scheme of things, and a couple of them are even coming out now.
So I don't think Naruto's better than all superhero comics, or even all superhero comics right now (hence the 95%). But I do think it's better than most of the ones that have been coming out for the past two years or so. :)

Scott Pilgrim ftw! Sorry Naruto, you don't compare.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-09 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)I do think DC in particular has been putting out a couple of really good books - I still love Birds of Prey, and I really enjoy Robin if I pretend Beechen's first arc didn't happen. And some of their non-continuity books have been great, too, like Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil. But...pretty much the entire rest of their line has completely stopped appealing to me.
But it's okay, because indies and "lame" manga like Naruto are starting to fill the void! (Now if only I could tell my friends these things without being mocked and shunned...)
