Just how long was Raito used? I came into the fandom late and didn't follow scanlations, but I heard it went on all the way through volume 6? If that's the case, I find that a bit odd since his name was already spelled in English in volume 2 of the Japanese tankoubon. Did literally no one on the scanlation teams (or the fandom in general) bother to buy the tankoubon and correct the mistake? There are always people who buy the tankoubon even if they don't know Japanese, so that just seems kind of weird.

The group I was with, WtF, caught a lot of crap for changing it at all, actually. At least one other group continued to use Raito, well into the later chapters.

For that matter, we weren't scanlating from the tankoubons, why would you think that? The chapters came out much quicker in the Jump magazine, so we had a HQ version that we put out with the tank scans, and the normal LQ version that was put out quickly with the Jump scans as they came out.

I wouldn't be particularly surprised if the Jump scans were up to the equivalent of Volume 6 when the actual tank of volume 2 came out, but I don't remember any of that off the top of my head. I know they were quite far behind.

No, I'm aware that most scanlation groups do it from the weekly chapters. But Jump tankoubon are released very quickly, every 2-3 months, so Jump is generally only about a dozen or so chapters ahead. Volume 2 came out in July 2004, meaning Jump chapters were around the first half of volume 4. There's no way it should have continued through volume 6; If the other groups did, that means they're partially responsible for the "But I'm used to Raito!" wank.
