This secret is a little confusing. Slash just implies that there is a same sex relationship - so are you embarrassed because you wrote about a gay relationship? If so, that's weird. Or are you assuming slash means sex, and you're embarrassed because you wrote sexy porn?

In fairness, plenty of people grow up in situations where they're taught that TEH GHAY is EBIIL, so writing same-sex relationships can be awkward for them, even if it's as innocent as just words and hand-holding.

You're probably right, but I always think of "slash" as being porn, I guess because the great majority of slashfic I've come across has been porn. And people sometimes use it and the term "yaoi" interchangeably and yaoi is porn.

NOT OP but I'm embarrassed whenever I write something that actually appeals to me. If I don't actually care about the ship I'm doing/ situation I'm writing, then I can stay sort of impartial about writing it in a realistic way? But if I really like it I'm worried about being That Girl, you know, that writes her ship completely out of character and makes it too fluffy or w/e. I mean I don't think I do? But I worry.

I think that for me, when I first wrote slash, I was embarrassed because in the previous fandoms I'd been in, slash had a really negative reputation because of the fangirls. There is a stigma associated with slash fans in a lot of fandoms- as being fanbrats, women hating, the usual, etc. I was kind of scared to dip my toes into that.

I quickly got over it though. And hell, my main pairing is slash now and it's one of the nicest, sweetest groups of shippers I've ever been involved in.
