I don't think I felt especially self-conscious about my first slash fic, since it was just two guys instead of a guy and a girl, and I didn't consider it a huge departure from writing het pairing fic. But my first porn fic? I was so embarrassed that the actual sex was described in about two or three short paragraphs. Now I dash off a few thousand words of descriptive sex without thinking about it (because frankly I've written so much of it that it bores me).

So yeah, you probably will get used to that sort of "new scary big step in fandom" with experience. Just don't get so used to it that you start talking about it outside fandom to your family and coworkers and stuff, because they probably will still consider it weird. ;)

Yeah, I've actually gotten to the point where I want to lay off the pr0n for a bit (unless I come with with a really good idea) because.. yeah...

Actually, I'm currently writing a slash fic with canon!Holmes/Watson, and having to dance around the idea of them having sex is kinda fun. (-:

Heh, I never really got anything out of it except lots of views on fic archives - I'm asexual, so it was like this kind of interesting experiment for me, seeing if I could write this thing that seems so important to other people, and maybe understand what's so exciting about it. ...That's part of what helped me figure out I was ace - other people said it was hot, and I was like "...It is? Well, good... I guess..." ;) And since they liked it, I kept writing/RPing it... until I got so incredibly sick of it and now avoid it whenever someone doesn't specifically ask for it.

It can still be kind of fun if there's some kind of unusual kink that needs to be negotiated, though, or if things don't go smoothly. In which case it's not so much about writing the porn anyway as just character conflict that happens to take place while they're (most of the time) naked. And I love conflict. :D Dancing around the idea of the characters having sex - that I can get behind totally.

THIS. Having them dance around the idea of having sex - and, for Holmes, the idea of being "in love" - in exquisitely Victorian prose, is the BEST FUN EVER. Always 1895 (give or take a decade or two) in my writing!

I'll admit I'm not sure about the "Victorian prose" bit. I'm trying, but I'm not sure how it's going. I've been looking for other fanfic based on the ACD canon, especially that which deals, however obliquely, with them actually having sex...
