You know, I love Buffy. I've watched it since its literal premiere [because I'm old as dirt] and I had a few friends who despite the show being 'up their alley' just didn't enjoy it. And they didn't LOATHE it. They just didn't like it. They could admit it had its dubious charms, and wasn't a complete piece of crap, but whether it was the characters, the relationships, the cheesy special effects the snarky writing- or all of the above: THEY DIDN'T LIKE IT. Of course that was before the internet became the go-to place to have your opinions trampled by overzealous devotees, so we were all pretty harmonious about it. I talked about Buffy with my friends who liked it, and refrained from pressuring my non-fan friends. Seemed so simple back then.

Also wik: Buffy is starting to get a little dated. Even in the Joss Whedon family of shows, it's the older sister. It's a little out of touch, and if you're just watching it now? Maybe it was 'the best' because when it was on the air, it was the best. Or at least it was better than a lot of the teenage drama and brainless sitcoms airing in that time period. But the damn thing is 15 years old, and chances are, a lot of people aren't going to share your nostalgic ardor. And pretty much no one can accept that hype can and does ruin a show. OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER WATCH WATCH IT IT IS LIKE GOD'S TELEVISION SHOW UTTER PERFECTION is effing annoying, and you go into it expecting to have your socks rocked off. And a show you might have been okay with becomes a blight on your Tumblr dashboard. Or whatever.

You go ahead and not like Buffy. I'm just one fan, but you have my goddamn permission to hate it if you want to. I don't think you're delusional, or 'missing out'. Buffy will always be in my top tier, but have I watched better television since then? Absolutely. God knows there's enough out there to keep everyone satisfied.

Dude, I really wish more people were like you. Fandom (and the Internet) would be a much nicer place.

Not OC, but there are plenty of us "old as dirt" people with sane heads online. We just have the sense to keep our mouths shut and refrain from replying to crazy posts. :P

IA. Buffy is very much one of those "you had to be there" type of shows. I too initially watched it when it was on The WB so long ago and most of my friends didn't watch it and it wasn't a big deal. I had one friend who did and the next day after each new episode we'd talk about it all day at school. It was normal and no one seemed to be offended by it. They all had their things they loved that I didn't. *cough*JTT*cough*

I actually re-watched the entirety of Buffy somewhat recently with my boyfriend who'd never seen it. He didn't know much about it and it was fun to watch it with him. He had no idea about Willow, Tara, Dawn, etc. It was cute haha But a lot of the show didn't age well imo. He made a lot of comments at just how 90s/00s it was and parts that I remember loving, he thought were really campy and stupid. And it's true. TV has evolved and Buffy is OLD.

Although, I did overhype Firefly, but then it's still awesome and I'm pretty sure it turned him into a Whedon fan haha
