I agree, although for me, that introductory fandom was XMFC. But that being said...some of the subversive A/O fics are interesting as hell. There's at least one about Omega rights, probably a couple about how Alphas and Omegas don't act like that but Betas assume they do, and I've seen one where one half of this perfect Alpha/Omega pair dies and everyone expects the other to go to pieces and they...don't. Pretty much all of these didn't have sex, but that's besides the point.

TL; DR: I hate this genre usually, but some of the interesting ones can be really interesting.

I totally agree. A lot of the alpha/omega stuff is not that great, but it can be really interesting when done well. The fic that inverts the usual tropes and explores gender roles can be especially interesting. I read one fic where alphas took on the typical omega role and were controlled/semi-outcast from society and omegas were in charge. It was pretty interesting.
