does this omega verse have anything to do with sherlock holmes? i just...am confused. i'm not into the sherlock fandom, but just wtf. can somebody please explain this?

No it doesn't. I think it came from the Supernatural fandom... maybe based off some sort of werewolf AU? I'm not really sure how it all started but it's basically just a universe where men can breed, be "mated," mark each other with scents, have weird dog sex, have lubricated butts, and get pregnant. There's alphas, betas, and omegas like in wolf packs to establish some sort of sub/dom thing. It's used in more fandoms than just Sherlock.

And what's even more infuriating is that wolf pack mating dynamics do not work that way. An Alpha wouldn't look twice at an Omega or a Beta, they would only be attracted to and mate with another Alpha. The pure biology fail alone turns me off this concept, but the rest? Ugh.

Wolves don't even HAVE alphas and omegas and betas. They have mommies, daddies, and kids in a family unit. It's only when put in an artificial environment that they form unrelated 'packs' and start acting weird.

oh fandom. thanks for the explanation :)

It's a thing that's found its way into several fandoms (particularly the larger fandoms). It's pretty big in SPN and XMFC, too. It doesn't really have anything to do with any of the fandoms specifically. It's just something that combines a lot of the tropes that people like, and my guess is that people who like it in one fandom bring it with them to another, especially given the overlapping between fans in the fandoms its big in.

ah. i don't read au at all...so yeah, was just confused. thanks :D
