I'm honestly puzzled. You're going to keep using the incorrect word because... you're allergic to learning? What?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-12 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Because I never write it down, and no one will know the difference. Also, because picking nits is not my idea of a good time, and as soon as I use it, I have to start explaining it to other people who don't know the difference. I'm just not going to bother.

DA

It sounds different, too.

The second part of your arguments doesn't make any sense, so I am not touching that.

Assuming you're pronouncing "premiere" and "premier" the same, how can you even choose to say "premier" instead, when you mean "premiere?" That'd be like if I swore that whenever I say "to" aloud, I'm actually saying "two."

so exactly my same thought.

In my accent "premier" is pronounced "PREM-i-ə" whereas "premiere" is pronounced something like "PREM-i-E", with the final E representing a sound like the word "air" (or like a short E except long). I guess it might depend on your accent, 'though.

I don't remember ever seeing or hearing "premier" used to mean "premiere". Certainly not often. Perhaps my living in a country with premiers means I encounter it less, or perhaps it's just my low involvement in IRL fandom.

(same anon)

People using "premier" to mean "premiere" doesn't bother me. I also don't think it's objectively problematic, and don't know of any standard by which it's objectively ungrammatical (some words already get used to mean several very different things, after all). I suppose it's fine to find it subjectively annoying, 'though.
