Nostalgia goggles detected.

While JKR's writing did improve over time, her first books in particular were shit as far as writing goes. The creativity/world building was all it had going for it in the beginning. It's laughable to say that the first HP book was written anywhere near as well as the first book in THG.

And as unlikeable as Katniss was, at least she wasn't a Mary Sue like Harry.

I disagree... Harry is far too flawed to qualify as a Mary Sue. And I always found JKR's prose engaging, if not master-level, whereas I thought the prose throughout the HG trilogy to be workmanlike at best. I love THG, but it's for character/plot reasons.
