The only problems I ever have with people who "don't like slash":

1. Sometimes people do come across as possibly homophobic. They come across that way because they complain a lot about how unrealistic they think slash is, for example, or they just complain or defend themselves so much that it's suspicious. And talking about not liking slash and defending yourself calls more attention and suspicion to your tastes than if you just read what you like and don't read what you're not interested in. It's not always fair, but when someone seems defensive, people wonder if there's a reason.

2. It kind of annoys me how broad the statement is. I get that a lot of people mean that they prefer romance or porn about het couples. That's totally cool. I prefer romance and porn about gay and lesbian couples. But obviously, not every story that has gay and lesbian characters or couples is going to be porn or romance. I'm assuming if you were reading say, a PG-rated gen adventure fic, the presence of a gay couple in the fic wouldn't turn you off reading it. If it did, I would find that a little discomforting.

Another thing to add for certain people who "don't like slash"

HETEROSEXUAL ERASURE

THERE'S TOO MUCH SLASH

IT'S TAKING OVER FANDOM

i still can't believe people like this still exist but what can you do

Yeah, those, too. I don't doubt that some people honestly are bashed simply for not enjoying slash, but there are a lot of people who say things like the above and then seem surprised that people find it annoying or suspicious.

We've got the IT'S NOT CANON! one up thread... mixed with the heterosexual erasure complain.
