Also, I think that if Mycroft kidnapped/warned/tried to employ John after less than 24 hours of John meeting Sherlock, it's logical to think that he did the same to the DI who ends up more often than not giving cases to Sherlock

Now I'm wondering whether Lestrade agreed to spy on Sherlock in exchange for money, unlike John...

I don't think that anyone who accepted the money would be allowed to hang around London for long. It wouldn't be hard for Mycroft to arrange for a DI who was prepared to accept money to spy on Sherlock to be transferred to Manchester, for example.

Maybe it's a test Mycroft does to anyone who has a more permanent relationship with Sherlock. Another way of protecting his brother....
