Lol at you thinking it's feminist just cause it focuses on the women instead of the men. I'm in total agreement w/Karuvapatta's comment above and I'm too lazy to rephrase my comment into something that's dissimilar to her's, so: http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/854549.html?thread=529755925#t529755925 text of which is:

"The best-selling book in which Gwenhwyfar didn't as much as rise to power as was married off to Arthur and spent the rest of it being pious and lusting over Lancelot? And the one in which Morgaine didn't fall into darkness as much as tried to keep the Great Goddess from being forgotten (and also lusted over Lancelot)? The book in which there was no tragic friendship between the two because they pretty much hated each other?

It's been a while since I read it, but the two stories aren't exactly alike."

I stand by my original comment because of the novel's portrayals of Morgana, Viviane, and the other women as the main protagonists as well as issues such as abortion, sexuality, and the psychological damage inflicted upon Christian women due to the concept of "purity". Gwenhwyfar, I admit, is problematic but I don't think her passivity was portrayed in a positive light by the novel. If anything, the tone of the novel seems openly to look down on her in many parts (which I personally found to be clumsy writing on Zimmer's part, but whatever.) As for me, I saw her as damaged by the patriarchy, though she did get better in certain parts (such as when she cast off her faith). Besides, what's wrong with Morgana (or Gwenhwyfar, for that matter) lusting over Lancelot? Yeah, Morgana lusted after many men an had alot of sex in that book with alot of men. Big deal. Good for her, I say. It still was not her defining characteristic, or even the most important thing in her life.

And I never said the Mists of Avalon was "exactly like" OP's secret. No, it was different. But I thought I'd recommend it anyway in case OP (or someone else) read it and ended up liking it.

You are totally entitled to your opinion, but I find myself rolling my eyes at the condescending tone adopted by those who assume all of us who use the "f-word" only study feminism on livejournal and tumblr. The rest of us have studied social justice issues in more "official" settings, too, and you'd be surprised to find many of us know what we are talking about.

Uh... well, yes, that's precisely why it is feminist. Because it is about female characters and it validates a woman's perspective as equal to that of men.

And I believe [livejournal.com profile] karuvapatta was commenting on the plot not being like the secret demanded, not that the book wasn't feminist.

Morgaine didn't fall into darkness as much as tried to keep the Great Goddess from being forgotten

And could you please explain to me how Morgana *not* being a 2-dimensional evil witch, but rather a complex person trying to save her religion and culture is NOT feminist? *rolleyes*
