I stand by my original comment because of the novel's portrayals of Morgana, Viviane, and the other women as the main protagonists as well as issues such as abortion, sexuality, and the psychological damage inflicted upon Christian women due to the concept of "purity". Gwenhwyfar, I admit, is problematic but I don't think her passivity was portrayed in a positive light by the novel. If anything, the tone of the novel seems openly to look down on her in many parts (which I personally found to be clumsy writing on Zimmer's part, but whatever.) As for me, I saw her as damaged by the patriarchy, though she did get better in certain parts (such as when she cast off her faith). Besides, what's wrong with Morgana (or Gwenhwyfar, for that matter) lusting over Lancelot? Yeah, Morgana lusted after many men an had alot of sex in that book with alot of men. Big deal. Good for her, I say. It still was not her defining characteristic, or even the most important thing in her life.

And I never said the Mists of Avalon was "exactly like" OP's secret. No, it was different. But I thought I'd recommend it anyway in case OP (or someone else) read it and ended up liking it.

You are totally entitled to your opinion, but I find myself rolling my eyes at the condescending tone adopted by those who assume all of us who use the "f-word" only study feminism on livejournal and tumblr. The rest of us have studied social justice issues in more "official" settings, too, and you'd be surprised to find many of us know what we are talking about.
