This so much! I'll admit that I don't watch House, I heard about this episode on the asexuality group on LJ, but it seriously pisses me off. Asexuals get such little exposure on TV in general, which just makes it all the more fucking annoying when the few times we are referenced it's in the context of "they're either sick or lying".

I went to some forums after I heard to see if anyone else was bothered, and although there were a few angry remarks (probably from other asexuals) most of the people were just saying they loved the episode, and loved how they solved the problem. >:(

I also saw the apology from the episode's writer, and she basically said that House needed a case to solve and he couldn't be shown to be wrong. OK, seriously? Why would you want a show where the main character ALWAYS has to be right? Even then - as people have said - why not have the husband still be sick, but have the wife as genuinely asexual? That way House could be right (because heaven forbid that he could just *gasp* not be right for once) and it wouldn't have been so fucking insulting to asexuals!

Exactly! I mean I'd prefer it if the horrid episode had never been written if they felt so moved to portray asexuality as a malfunction/illness/whatever but at the very least they could have provided this middle ground. I think the moment when the wife was all like "I've missed having sex, it's fun" (totally paraphrasing btw) was the part I found most disgusting. Because to have that happen ON TOP of the other medical bullshit was so fucking beyond the pale IDEK where to start.
