Um. Okay.

Eilonwy was 500000x more badass in the books than in the one crappy Disney movie, though. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-03-14 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Eilonwy. That movie was a pretty shitty interpretation/mish-mash of the first two books, but Eilonwy is awesome in any form.

Seriously, what is this, the 50th old secret someone's dug up and reposted? What's going on here?

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
OH GOD ME TOO.

I thought me and my partner were the only ones who thought that (it also became our headcanon!), I'm so glad we're not alone.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
YOUR PARTNER IS OBVIOUSLY THE OP.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
PARTNER OF THE FIRST ANON HERE. IT ISN'T ME.

WE'RE BOTH SHOCKED.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I THOUGHT SO AT FIRST, BUT THEN I DISCOVERED IT'S NOT

THAT'S WHAT AMAZED ME SO MUCH IN THIS SECRET

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
To the couple in this thread: do your names start with R & K? You're kind of vaguely reminding me of some people I know, in the good way. <3

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
No, no! But we're flattered we reminded you of someone, in the good way. :D

The Black Cauldron (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088814/), one of Disney's lesser-known works from the 80s.

(The movie is kind of... not well put together, but I highly recommend the series it's based on by Lloyd Alexander if you like YA fantasy.)

Isn't this a repeat?

[identity profile] lady-kinky-chan.livejournal.com 2012-03-15 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
THAT...

is awesome, OP.

I'll add that to my head!canon, I don't even give a fuck.

They weren't faithful at all to the books, so I think the movie can handle having the female protagonist being interpreted as trans.

Eilonwy went from being a boring generic fantasy princess to someone who probably has a verrrry interesting backstory and added hidden depth. I always actually like her personality, it's just her function and role was just so staid and cliche.

(Now I sorta wanna write fic where Taran and Eilonwy are aged up a bit and they start having their first intimate moment together and suddenly Taran finds an unusually large bulge on his princess's undergarments and then angsty drama/hilarious comedy ensues! XD)

Admittedly the movie was bland, but in the books, Eilonwy is an AWESOME character. Far from being ~generic and ~boring. And she had a cool background. And lots of depth.
ext_19953: (the lady or the tiger?)

Right on.

Interesting bit of trivia:

"The name Eilonwy is in fact not a historical Welsh name (unlike many others used in the stories). Lloyd Alexander invented it himself, based on elements borrowed from actual Welsh names."Eilonwy" is most likely based on period names such as "Eilfyw" (m), "Eiludd" (m), etc. and "Euronwy" (f), "Goronwy" (m), "Llifonwy" (m), "Tegonwy" (m). Alexander may have used these names as his starting-point in inventing "Eilonwy." As the above examples show, the ending "-onwy" appears in both masculine and feminine names, so the name "Eilonwy" could be either masculine or feminine."
