(Anonymous) 2012-03-14 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)Eilonwy was 500000x more badass in the books than in the one crappy Disney movie, though. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-03-15 12:44 am (UTC)(link)(The movie is kind of... not well put together, but I highly recommend the series it's based on by Lloyd Alexander if you like YA fantasy.)

is awesome, OP.
I'll add that to my head!canon, I don't even give a fuck.
They weren't faithful at all to the books, so I think the movie can handle having the female protagonist being interpreted as trans.
Eilonwy went from being a boring generic fantasy princess to someone who probably has a verrrry interesting backstory and added hidden depth. I always actually like her personality, it's just her function and role was just so staid and cliche.
(Now I sorta wanna write fic where Taran and Eilonwy are aged up a bit and they start having their first intimate moment together and suddenly Taran finds an unusually large bulge on his princess's undergarments and then angsty drama/hilarious comedy ensues! XD)

"The name Eilonwy is in fact not a historical Welsh name (unlike many others used in the stories). Lloyd Alexander invented it himself, based on elements borrowed from actual Welsh names."Eilonwy" is most likely based on period names such as "Eilfyw" (m), "Eiludd" (m), etc. and "Euronwy" (f), "Goronwy" (m), "Llifonwy" (m), "Tegonwy" (m). Alexander may have used these names as his starting-point in inventing "Eilonwy." As the above examples show, the ending "-onwy" appears in both masculine and feminine names, so the name "Eilonwy" could be either masculine or feminine."
