You got the first part right, at least.

I usually chalk the second part up to 1) bad writing, 2) bad writing, and 3) bad writing. "Most cases" is a bit extreme, don't you think? And "misogyny" is too strong an accusation to just throw around lightly.

You're right, but if all the other (male) characters are well-developed, bad writing is a poor excuse. Plus it's not necessarily the writers' fault that female actresses are generally judged by their attractiveness and not their acting ability because that's what the audience wants and what the producers deliver.

I'm mostly thinking about action flicks, and it's true they are overflowing with badly written stereotypes, but male characters have a lot more bad stereotypes to chose from.

But if a bad stereotype is a bad stereotype is a bad stereotype and they're all poorly written, then surely more of them doesn't make it better?
