On the DVD commentary for the movie, they apparently had a lot of parents complain after the movie aired. Parents saw a clown on the advertisements and mistakenly thought that it must be for children. They had no idea that it was supposed to be scary! I guess they've never heard of Stephen King, because I'm not sure how anyone could make that assumption.

I was eleven, and my parents let me watch it, but that was because I was obsessed with Stephen King at the time and was already reading his books. I had always been afraid of clowns all my life (I burst into tears at the clowns when my parents took me to the circus when I was younger), but this movie didn't help in the least.

Seriously? I mean... it was after Carrie! The Shining is not a happy family movie! (Unless you see that one recut trailer), Christine, Cujo, and I think Pet Semetary all predate It! And there's a huge lizardlike claw right on the cover... How could anyone make the assumption that it was a family movie even after all that?

(And wait... is that a Duma Key icon?! Cool! I totally need SK icons now that I'm redoing my thesis)

I loved Duma Key when I first read it. The descriptions of the paintings chill me to the bone.
