Say Bellatrix Lastrange from Harry Potter fandom, are we supposed like her for the sheer fact that she's female even though she did some truly despicable, morally reprehensible things? Or say Umbridge from the same fandom? Morgana from Merlin? Glory from Buffy? Nellie from Little House on the Prairie?
Fact is, it is okay to dislike someone when their behavior is reprehensible. It doesn't matter what gender they are. Its not a woman thing and its not a man thing, its a behaving badly thing.
Maybe some people do hate on female characters because they get in the way of slash characters, but not all do. Don't generalize. It didn't bother me that Uhura was in a romantic relationship with Spock, it did bother me when she acted rude.
