Wonderful OP. I too followed the Way of Scully and have a PhD in a science (entomology).
Did you complete the degree? If so, you can always do one (or multiple sequential) postdocs. They look great on a CV and will earn income while you work toward a job-job.
I hope it works out for you. Lord knows academia is a hard place to be, and all the work you've already accomplished is something the enigmatic Dr. Scully would cheer you on for! I'm cheering for you.
